Red Cards

Immigrants are part of our community

People waving the American flag

A significant portion of residents in Clinton County are immigrants or descendants of immigrants. We value the culture they bring to Clinton County, from their work ethic to their food, music and so much more.

Long before the Trump administration took office, The Clinton County Progressives understood the danger that our community would face. The Trump administration has woven a web of lies about immigrants; They claim immigrants are a drain on public programs that immigrants pay into, like healthcare and food assistance. They falsely declare that constitutional rights that apply to all people do not apply to immigrants. They paint immigrants as violent and barbaric. Meanwhile, the Trump administration executes Americans in our streets.

Statewide, many Republican elected officials applaud the cruelty. Most in Clinton County stand by quietly. We won’t. If the Trump administration was right about immigrants, Clinton County would be in ruin. It isn’t.

Before we began protesting across from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, we created flyers and purchased thousands of Red Cards. The flyers urge those in our community to speak out if they witness suspicious activity. Red Cards serve as reminders about the constitutional rights of all residents in Clinton County regardless of citizenship status. We reached out to several local businesses and neighbors and asked them to hand out these flyers and cards or to make them readily available for customers to grab. We were glad to hear back from so many of them.

Since then, ICE has shown up right here in Clinton County. They appeared in the early mornings, no doubt to avoid being sighted. Again, we heard nothing but silence from local elected officials. The Clinton County Progressives started protesting ICE in front of Old Stoney. Members also attended a rapid response training session held by United Tippecanoe Rapid Response Network and Ayuda Mutua.

Clinton County exposes the lies of the Trump administration. Our diverse community is safe, not dangerous. We’ll do what we can to protect it. We hope you’ll join us.
